FINAL PROJECT:

For my final project I've kind of been playing around with two ideas, the first is kind of a spin off the sleep paralysis demon paintings such as this one:

And do a series a photographs depicting other peoples dreams or nightmares, so I'd show the person sleeping and in the background I'd create this surrealistic half photo half painting of the persons dream or nightmare or both.

My second idea is to do a just a piece as an expression of myself. I created this image awhile back of a skull and coffee cup combined and its kind of been my own personal logo, so I'd like to take it a couple of steps further and try and make an entire series like this one or take this and refine it, alter, and just use this as a jumping point for a self portrait.

  1. I think I like your first idea about depicting dreams and nightmares more. It could be really cool and it's more interesting.

  2. The first idea about sleeping and dreams sounds much more interesting. Dreams and nightmares are something we can all relate to. I feel like it has more potential. A possibility is to, within the series of images, show a progression from dream to nightmare.

  3. I'd go for the depicting of dreams. You can do more with that idea, and the self/logo idea seems like its been over done. But go with whichever one feels right for you.

  4. These are both cool ideas. I would be careful not to get too wrapped up in the concept and make the work more visually pleasing. Though the concepts are both interesting, it could potentially be too predictable to create literal images of mash-ups or puns.

  5. Both of these ideas seem cool, I am especially interested with the sleep paralysis spin off, as I am a victim of sleep paralysis episodes quite often. Like mentioned above, I think focusing on the composition is important, and not to loose it in the concept. Although the dream one may be the crowd pleaser, but I think that a series of your icons could be cool to and you should do whichever idea you feel strongest about.

  6. I like the idea of sleep paralysis, it's conceptually stronger. I also think it'll be neat to see what kind of dreams or nightmares you come up with. I think if you wanted to get other involvement you could interview people about their dreams.

  7. As a viewer I am more drawn to your idea of dreams and sleep paralysis since I can relate to more than your logo. I agree with Grace, interviewing people about their dreams and nightmares could help you collect ideas of what could go on in the background.

  8. I like the dreams idea, the idea of the blurred line between our dreams and our reality. I would like to see you explore this one, maybe incorporating even parts of your personal logo with the skull, etc.

  9. I think that you have interesting ideas here. I think you could combine them both, putting the logo almost as a tattoo on the faces of the dreaming people, as if they have been "taken" by sleep and are thus branded.

  10. I really like both ideas, but I'd want to see more photo work for the first one. It sounds like a great concept, but it needs to be more specific i think. Like maybe have a few ideas of drams already going to start thinking of.

I also really like the second idea. I think that could be a really cool one to work with. You could definitely define that sketch more and maybe work on a whole series of logos for yourself. Like for cards, websites, etc. I think that would be really cool, and I think that'd be really practical to have some work done on since it's a personal logo piece. Then you could start using it on a variety of things.

  11. I think both ideas you should be careful with, I could see both turning cheesy if you don't try to stray away from the obvious "skull" and other imagery. Having said that, both could end up super awesome as well. My advice would be just to go crazy and let the process take over for awhile.

  12. So, which of the two did you do? I've never experienced sleep paralyses myself at its fullest like people describe it, hearing souds, seem things and stuff, but once I had the felt like the bed was holding me down like if it arms. It lasted less than a minute but it totally freaked me out. Also, I think it's really fascinating how some people have nightmares almost everyday and others only once every other year or so. the human psyche is fragile yet amazing.

The second idea sounded neat on paper but I think that only people that know you could really apreciate it.
